As you know Search engine traffic is one of the most important targeted traffic sources you can get. Search engine displays results on its result page (SERP) sorted by the ranking and relevance to the search queries. From the results, generally people trust top 10 or sometimes 20 results as they think those are closer to what they are looking for. And also these top 10 results often gets click because people think they found something they are looking for.
One fine morning you notice that you are losing most of the natural traffics from search engines and most of your competitive keywords failing to get your blog into the top of search engine result pages. What could be the reason? There are several factors decides your drop in your ranking. Some important factors are:

So now, How to recover my lost search engine ranking? – I know this is the question you have in your mind right now. Well, don’t worry in today’s topic I’m going to show you 10 tips that help you to recover from rankings that you have lost in search engines.
Tip #1 – Re-Write Your Post Titles: First, check your post titles and make sure they are relevance to the content on particular page. Remove if you have unnecessary keywords stuffed in to your title or heading. Maintain your title to maximum 60 characters long. Use only 2-3 keywords in the headings. The longer the title the less visibility in the result page as the part of title will not be shown.
Tip #2 – Check Your Page Indexation: Check your website index results by running site:mydomain.com (change mydomain.com to your real domain name) to see if you have lost an excessive amount of pages. Next, check the result; is there any changes between old results and present result. If you see big difference to previous result, then there is an issues. Your pages are de-indexed by search engine and they will not give you any ranking.
Tip #3 – Check For Duplicate indexation: This happens when you have issues with your own website of web server and your pages get indexes multiple times. This will create duplicate content in search engines. If your site has a duplicate content you will be penalized by search engines. To avoid duplicate contents make sure to follow these steps:
- Noindex nofollow the comment RSS feeds.
- Noindex nofollow the search result pages.
- Noindex nofollow the login and register pages.
- Noindex nofollow all admin pages.
- Noindex nofollow the sub pages of homepage.
- Noindex nofollow author archives.
- Noindex nofollow date based archives.
- Noindex nofollow tag archives.
- Add noodp, noydir tags to prevent using DMoz & Yahoo directory description for the site.
Tip #4 – Add More Quality and Quantity Contents: Less content may cause issue of losing search engine ranking. Check your top landing pages content quality and quantity. Maintain at least 500+ words per article. Adding minimum of 500+ unique words per article will support relevance and authority of particular page. Never use spun articles from other websites. If you were impressed from an article of other website wanted to write a similar article on your blog do not duplicate it or just spin it using spinner application instead re-write it minimum 2 times. Use your own words, take a help of MSWord’s built in synonyms facility. If you just spin an article you will be trapped by search engines because they are even able to trace co-occurrence – discover relevance content on its indexed pages.
Tip #5 – Check Your Robot.txt File Problems: Incorrectly written robots.txt file is one of the main causes to lose search engine ranking. Make sure you do not have any mistakes in your robots.txt file which may be prohibiting search engines to crawl certain pages of your website. So, make sure your robot.txt file is only blocking the search engine bots you don’t want to be indexed or crawl. Tip #6 – Consider Building Deep Linking: Create keyword-rich landing pages using specific keywords. By doing this you can dramatically increase rankings by page SEO efforts.
Tip #7 – Remove Unnecessary and Bulky Internal Links: There are no restrictions for having excessive internal links, but it’s tested by SEO community that you can have up to 50 internal links per page. If you have more than 100 internal links per page then you will be treated as spammer, this will drop ranking in SERPs.
Tip #8 – Check Your Web Server: Web Server issue is another factor could cause search engine ranking. If your server is slow, down most of the time and cannot respond for Search Engine Spider access can lead you to lose ranking. Also if you are in shared hosting and once of a website hosted on the same server has malware issue this will affect on your website. If you find something immediately contact your hosting company and inform them.
Tip #9 – Broken Links: Broken links on your website can cause serious problems, especially if it’s a important internal link on your website. Its almost impossible to check manually for your broken links, but if you are WordPress blogger you can use a free Plugin called Broken Link Checker which gives you a message via email or on dashboard as soon as it detects a broken link. Tip #10 – Patience: When search engine changes their algorithm most of the site gets affected. After cleaning up your site for above said points just sit calmly and work on improving your on-page optimization. You will get back your lost ranking for sure.
