Web 2.0 refers to this avatar of the web that is dynamic and almost ever changing. Among the more common examples are all the social media sites that allow users to create worlds of their own in the spaces they occupy, blogs on any number of topics and wikis that are the epitome of the democratic process that is the internet.
You also have Web 2.0 in the form of mashups, hosted services, web applications and video sharing sites and services.
Web 2.0 properties are great if you’re trying to build more visibility for your own website or blog. An essential part of Search Engine Optimization or SEO is link building and back links and Web 2.0 properties are a highly effective, mostly free way to do just that.
You can use their high page ranking to get high rankings yourself. When you consider the top ten web 2.0 properties, the number of visitors per month is a good indication to go by. Here is a list of our top ten web 2.0 properties.

WordPress
Whether it’s a blog or a website, you can build anything you want in a matter of minutes. Easy integration with social media and mobile apps, over 200 and more gorgeous themes and the ability to track data and learn from statistics are some of the highlights of the site. CNN, TIME and TED are some of the groups that use WordPress.com
Live Journal
This site can be anything you want it to be- a forum for debate, a way to express your deepest thoughts or a site to get everyone involved. LiveJournal is a respected blogging platform and has over 16 million journals on a wide variety of topics.
Blogger
Google’s user friendly blog hosting platform, Blogger has fun templates and lets you post from your phone. You can also make some money with your blog with Adsense, if you so choose.
Tumblr
There isn’t anything like Tumblr around. It’s more than a blog hosting platform. Considering that it hosts over 89 million blogs, calling it a platform would be unfair. You can add links, photos, and videos from anywhere and customize it with themes and colors. This is a creative, beautiful site.
Squidoo
This site prides itself on original content that users share with family and friends because they love their work. As a plus, if a page does well, it earns royalty for the creator or for the creator’s charity work. So if it’s gorgeous webpages about poetry or cars, food or fashion, to name just a few, you’ll find it all here.
YouTube
Not that it needs an introduction, but as the last word on video sharing on the planet, YouTube is more of a phenomenon than a website.
Weebly
Over 12 million users and counting, that’s the power of Weebly. One of the beauties of the site is its simple drag and drop website building interface. You need practically zero technical skills to run it. The site runs on cloud, comes with a host of features and has TIME’s seal of approval.
The microblogging site found a niche and filled it in a way that is hard to replicate. Tweets have become part of daily parlance and some tweets have become famous and infamous in equal measure.
Craigslist
This site has attracted its share of bad press but to be fair, you do need to exercise discretion when you’re hunting for information there. You can look for most anything, virtually anywhere. So whether it is a simple video game or a pet that’s lost, post an ad on Craigslist and something might show up.
Reddit’s stories are created by users whose votes decide on which news takes precedence and which does not. So you choose what’s cool, create a community, comment on a story and join people from over 162 countries in doing the same.
